3rd Training School Poznan

3rd Training School – “Finishing of the surface of thermally modified wood with UV lacquer products - theory and practice”

6-8 March 2013
Faculty of Wood Technology - 38/42 Wojska Polskiego St., Poznan, Poland
Technical Centre of SHERWIN WILLIAMS Comp. – 2 Teczowa St., Komorniki/ Poznan, Poland

Aim of the Training School

The aim of the Training School (TS) should provide particularly to early-stage researcher knowledge about finishing thermally modified wood with lacquer products. The participants will be trained during theoretical (Faculty of Wood Technology) as well as practical courses (in industrial conditions Technical Centre of SHERWIN WILLIAMS Comp.) on selected topics from the following fields:

1. Faculty of Wood Technology (first and third day)
- impregnation of wood
- principles of thermal wood modification
- finishing of wood and wood based materials with UV lacquers
- preparation of surface before finishing
- analoque and digital printing
- veneers densification
- wood based materials from modified wood

For the prepared in industrial conditions properties of lacquer coatings:
- determination of aesthetic-decorative features (gloss, metamerism, colour)
- evaluation of resistance to selected mechanical (abrasion, impact, scratching), thermal, and chemical factors
- wettability and adherence of coatings to substrates
- methods of aging test

2. Technical Centre of SHERWIN WILLIAMS Comp. (second day)
- preparation of lacquer products in laboratory conditions
- sanding of thermally modified wood, calibration of machine
- principles of application of lacquers with rollers (BÜRKLE system), spray robots (ELMAG SUPERFICI line)
- hardening with UV lamps (LED bulbs)
- technological process control

Financial support obtained from COST for trainees:
For travel cost maximum of 650 € per trainee will be guaranteed.

Application procedure and deadline: Call closed
The number of participants is 17 (15 participants + 2 invited speakers: Prof. P. Bekhta, Prof. J.Sedliacik). The training school will start on 06 March 2013 at 1 p.m. so travelling on Wednesday morning is possible.
