2nd Training School
"Basics for Chemistry of Wood Surface Modification"
23-24 April 2012, Salzburg University of Applied Sciences, Kuchl/Salzburg, Austria
The aim of the Training School (TS) is to provide knowledge about existing impregnation technologies as well as Raman and NIR spectroscopic methods in closed system applied to wood and particularly aim to attract early stage resarchers. The topics presented at this TS are in the frame of the Action activities and will provide an intensive training on the emerging subjects of wood surface modification and analytical testing methods as well as practice on laboratory equipments (wood impregnation devices, microscope, near infrared spectroscopy and colour measurement devices).
The TS duration is 2 days (23-24 April 2012). Participants will gain close to key knowledge in the field of wood surface modification thanks to an alternation of theoretical and practical sessions.
The participants will be trained during theoretical as well as practical courses on selected topics from the following fields:
- Existing impregnation technologies and devices to perform them
- Experimental analysis applied to impregnation products
- Mechanics applied to impregnation products
- Chemical modification of wood during different treatments, with focus on Raman spectroscopy and NIR spectroscopy
For the practical parts, experiments are planned on the following devices from the laboratory of Salzburg University of Applied Sciences in Kuchl:
- Impregnation devices
- Universal testing machine
- NIR spectroscopy
Application
We encourage interested scientists to send their informal application together with a letter of motivation to Ingrid Seidl by March 31, 2012, at the latest. The letter of motivation (max. 1 page) should contain information on how the applicant will benefit from the Training School and in which way the learned techniques will be applied in her/his scientific work.
Deadline for the application procedure: 31 March 2012
Financial support obtained from COST for trainees:
For travel cost maximum of € 650 per trainee will be granted.
Number of participants: 20
Location:
Salzburg University of Applied Sciences, Campus Kuchl, Markt 136a, 5431 Kuchl/Salzburg, Austria.
